I went on a solo tour of the West Coast in 2009, visiting friends and finding adventure along my route from Seattle to San Francisco. Alone in Portland one evening, I decided to check out a show listed as a “Dolly Parton Hoot Night” at the Crystal Ballroom. Standing out among the local bands performing Dolly covers and drag queen MCs—and it’s darn tough to stand out in a sea of a dozen large-bosomed, Dolly-themed blondes—was a young lady and her band: Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside. I’ve been following their steady rise in the music world, and had the chance to catch them again at The Hideout this September. Today, Daytrotter released their live session from the studios in Rock Island. Take a listen. Rock a little. Enjoy your weekend!
